National Therapy Animal Day

Celebrating National Therapy Animal Day 🐾

National Therapy Animal Day is a day dedicated to recognizing the incredible impact therapy animals have on the lives of so many. From providing comfort and companionship to reducing stress and loneliness, therapy animals play a large role in supporting mental and emotional well-being in our communities. Join us in celebrating this monumental holiday on April 30th, 2026.

For me, this day is especially meaningful. I’m proud to serve on the board of Pug Therapy (Pugtherapy.org), where I’m involved with marketing and website efforts to help serve our mission by raising awareness and connecting with the community.

What We Do at Pug Therapy

Pug Therapy is a nonprofit organization based in the Oceanside, California area, dedicated to spreading joy one visit at a time. Our certified therapy dogs visit a variety of settings, including:

  • Group homes
  • Senior living communities
  • Mental health establishments
  • Colleges
  • Events
  • Private homes

Every visit is centered around connection, comfort, and companionship.

Canine therapy offers both mental and physical health benefits. Interacting with dogs can trigger the release of feel-good hormones like serotonin and oxytocin, which in turn helps reduce stress, anxiety, and loneliness. The support that therapy animals provide can also help lower blood pressure, improve cardiovascular health, and even reduce pain. For many, a visit from a well-behaved dog is a welcome and calming distraction from an ongoing challenge in their lives.

At its core, Pug Therapy focuses on creating meaningful human-animal connections that bring comfort and healing to different people from all walks of life.

Our Therapy Dogs

All of our dogs are certified Canine Good Citizens (CGC), meaning they were tested for high standards of behavior, obedience, and temperament. This ensures that every interaction is safe, positive, and enriching for the individuals we serve.

Why Therapy Animals Matter

Therapy animals help:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Encourage social interaction
  • Provide comfort during difficult times
  • Improve overall emotional health

For seniors, individuals facing health challenges, or kids working through developmental needs, that kind of connection to an animal can be incredibly powerful. Therapy animals bring a sense of calm, joy, and genuine companionship that sticks with people long after the visit ends. In a world where many people face isolation or ongoing hardship, even a short visit from a friendly dog can make a lasting difference.

Get Involved

As we celebrate National Therapy Animal Day, we invite you to be part of what we do.

We are currently looking for Donations – Contributions help us continue our visits, support our volunteers, and expand our reach within the Oceanside community.

Every bit of support helps us bring more smiles, more comfort, and more moments of connection to those who need it most.
